So give me a PM if you want but FYI, I have extra (metal) slides with diaphragms from my parts bike (83 750). I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'd assume they're in good working condition since I used them for 6 months before switching over to the other carb which cosmetically looked to be in better condition. For that parts bike carb, the sync went well and the bike ran well, so I'd think that the diaphragms are in good condition. And when I switched carbs, I put the parts bike card slides in a plastic bag, after rubbing silicone gel on the rubber parts. Apparently this is supposed to help restore the plasticity of the rubber. There didn't appear to be any pin-holes or vacuum leaks. I say no vacuum leaks because the carb sync'd well. Generally a difficult carb sync is because of vacuum leaks. So like I said, carb sync went great. But I rubbed in some silicone gel because the rubber was feeling a bit ridged. Nothing extreme, but I could notice the difference between the two sets of diaphragms. The parts bike diaphragms were a little more ridged than the other set of diaphragms. I can't say more than that because I've never felt completely shot diaphragms before. But that said, give me a PM if you want and I'll give you a good deal. I love helping out fellow shadow owners with the parts I have. I'm not trying to make money, I just want to get rid of extra parts I have laying around, and I want to give them to friends here on this forum. Just ask "earthling789" or "corner27". I'm sure they'll vouch for my "sales" integrity. Like I said, PM if you're interested. I'm just trying to help you out here. There's no gain for me except the joy of helping someone else rebuild their shadow. And that's satisfaction enough me!

WOW! I don't consider myself good at being a salesperson, but I just re-read that and it sounds like a sales pitch. Oh well, just trying to honest.

In any case, you're making good progress on the bike and I'm following! I love watching these rebuilds! These old Shadows will live forever!! LOL!

Remember matt, when you're staring into the darkness, the darkness may be staring into you...
Which is just a melodramatic way of saying "hey I'm following your build too, what're the odds?!".
And yes, you have a future in car sales.
PM sent!!

Good catch, Matt. They are the same part number. Check it out:
Piston Vacuum Vt700c Shadow 1984 Usa 16111ME9671
Piston Vacuum Vt750c Shadow 750 1983 Usa 16111ME9671

Which means that I have one too. One of my slides had a ripped diaphragm. The rubber looked like melted and glued to the side wall. So when I pulled it out it was all ripped. But the other one is not ripped at all. By comparing that one with a new one, I noticed the the later was all stiff and ready to go, which prompted me to buy another one. I wish to pass this bike to my kid so I invested lot$ of silly money in new parts for my bike. As Matt already offered his, no point in doing it now. But if a fellow Sadower is in need for one, I'm willing to part from it.
Let's put these beauties back where they belong: on the road. Not on eBay!

Back to something we brought up earlier, what size jets would I need to grab if I went with pods or a custom air intake? Since I plan on changing up the exhaust as well, I'd rather do it now while the carbs are already in pieces! And for all those wondering, I've been talking to Don from the above mentioned company that makes the diaphragms, and he said he may or may not have the ones I need ( he's checking), but he's been very helpful with everything... I would suggest everyone check him out! I'll keep you all posted!

Well good news: got ahold of Donald with JBM Industries - turns out e had a few more of the diaphragms I needed! Went ahead and ordered two today. I'll make sure to let you know when they come in and post photos of the replacement. Hopefully we will have found a $20 replacement instead of a $110 pain in the ass!

I hope you ordered the K-72-S diaphragms and not the K-72. By the pics you posted it appears you have the metal slides like my bike did.
I made the mistake and ordered the k-72 and had to return them on my dime.. But they let me return them no problems.

There's no answer for that question. The jet sizes and needle shimming is way to specific to the mods on your exhaust and intake. I know if you're moving from a baffled exhaust to something less baffled, you have to size up your jets. I'm not sure how the intake mods go. Does more (less restricted) airflow also require larger jets to richen the mix? IDK about that one. There's plenty of carb gurus on this forum that will release their wisdom upon you.
