I'm not sure if all Cobra's are the same--I've broken a few sets of their drag pipes (this was back in 95-96). The ones that didn't break from vibration were the drag pipes when they finally redesigned them--where they mount the pipes to a bracket rather than bolting together before mounting to the exhaust bracket on the bike. The last set of Cobra's I had did last longer, but the pipe where it bends at the cylinder head is what gave it up from heat (it cracked). And--the Cobra drag pipes did NOT have full length heat shields to hide the bluing from the heat where the Vance and Hines pipes do. I've had Jardine and Samson pipes on the bike also--in fact in the pic the fishtails are Samson. Way too loud and they are not made very well--had a long section of pipe crack and fall off the bike in under a week of having them on--so I would steer clear of their pipes. The Vance and Hines pipe mount bracket is beefier--and you can get quieter baffles from them as well if you think the pipes are too loud. In my opinion they are just better--they cost more but you get what you pay for.

SuperboyX,
Thanks, I wasn't sure if i had to go with duals or not. I know a buddy of mine that i ride with has a 97 1100 ACE also and he is looking at a set of dual Vance and Hines. I will have to get with him and see which ones he is looking at and let you know. |

Thank you. From what i have been told and what i have found during my research i think i am definitely going to go with some Vance and Hines. I don't mind paying a little more for good quality. Plus being able to control the loudness is a plus. I know i want them to be kind of loud but not over powering.
I want an exhaust that sounds bad ass on take off and through town but not to loud when cruising at 60+, and suggestions? |

I have Cobra drag pipes on my VT1100 and like them very much. Nice rumble but not intrusive. I also have a windshield that I immediately took off when I bought the bike. I prefer to ride with a FF helmet and I hate the highway buffeting and also the starburst effect that the windshield gives at night unless it's absolutely spotless. My helmet vizor keeps me well protected and dry. You can have the screen, brackets etc for the cost of shipping if you want it. It's also by Cobra and has a slight blue tint to it.
