Default VT500 Won't Start. Any help appriciated...

Hey guys!

So, once more, my VT500 is having issues. I bet I've spent more time working on this stupid thing than riding it, ill stop now...

Anyway...

When you go to start it, it makes this weird noise like it's "halfway running". Its a soft popping noise, that sounds like its firing, but it won't "take" and actually start.

I got it to run for 3-4 seconds this morning but there was a strange "sucking" sound coming from somewhere in/on the front half of the engine. It promptly died and wouldnt start again.

I've also tried jumping it from a cage, but without it doesn't help.

Ahhhhhhhh... What do y'all think? If nothing else, atleast it doesn't spew gas everywhere anymore. Atleast it hasn't in a couple days now

Go to the basics.

Pull a plug, is it wet? If yes then you have fuel.
Put a compression gauge in the spark plug hole. Do you have compression?
Ground the base of the spark plug and try to start. Do you have a bright blue spark?

That sucking sound sure sounds like it has a vacuum leak, like the carbs are not in the boots properly. That will definately effect the way it runs or doesn't run.

You could also try spraying a small amount of starting fluid in where the air filter goes and see if it will start.
