1st and 2nd Gear Noises

I have a 99 Shadow Ace 750 and Ive ridden it daily over the last 2 months (roughly 1500mi (oil changed also)). I am now hearing noises in the Crankcase when taking off in first gear and second gear also. I recently had to remove some slack in the chain as it had well over the recommended amount of slack.

My question is, would the noise I'm hearing be tied to the idea that it may be time for a new chain (even though the chain marks don't indicate replacement yet)? I'm also concerned about crankcase lube/oil which i cannot find in my service manual. And before i go..... I read that the chain is only good for 500mi..... is that accurate?

You mis read the "chain is only good for 500mi" part,,,it's the chain should be lubed at 500 miles. This can be extended miles wise for the lubing with the spray on wax or teflon chain lubes.

My original chain went 28,000 miles. Could be your chain links are no longer straightening out coming off of the sprocket. This is an indication for the need of replacing said chain.

the engine oil is also the trans lube. When you change the engine oil you are also changing the trans oil.

What kind of oil did you use (weight/brand/type)??? .... Also, how many miles on the bike itself?

As previously stated, 500 miles is the recommended "lube" interval, not replacement. Jeez, we'd all be broke if that were the case!

Check you oil level again and verify it is correct. Chain may be done depending on how slack it was. How much slack was in it? You might want to check you have not overtightened chain ie you must check in 4 - 5 places when tightening by rolling bike forward a few times when checking.
