Universal fuel filter...

Has anyone ever tried using a universal fuel filter from the auto parts store instead of the oem? Price difference is close to $20. Is it even possible?

I've used one. As long as you get one that uses the same diameter hose and it fits where you need to put it there should be no problem.

If you want to be certain, pull the filter and take it to the store. Should be no big deal.

I did on an 88 800 I bought for my daughter. I tried 3 different ones before I gave up and put out the cash for the OEM filter. The filter mounts in such a tight hole that I couldn't get an aftermarket filter that would work. If the diameter of the connections was right the body of the filter was too large.

If you can find one that fits and has the right size connections there is no reason it won't work. If you can't fit it where it is now you might move it to a different location and replumb it.
