So i was riding to work this morning and noticed that when i hit my turn signal my light below the speedometer didnt go on. I glanced at the signal and it was off in the direction i was turning and the other was on. I hit the switch to turn it off and it came back on like normal. Same for the other side. When I got home I tried it again and same problem. Noticed that both back signals were off and stayed off no matter what i did. Hitting either break doesnt make the back break light brighter and the horn isnt working anymore. All of this happened at the same time that i can tell. Everything else is working fine light head light/ high beam and the starter. I have no idea where to start looking or what could be wrong. HELP?!?!?

Looks like you may have a short circuit somewhere.
Remove the seats and look for the cable connection bundle for all the rear lights. There may be something wrong there. Disconnect all the wires and reconnect them, one by one, and test the lights, blinkers and stop light every time you do that. Also check if any fuse is blown and if it is, don't replace it until you find out why. Good luck. |

[QUOTE=85 Shadow VT500C;1429958]I had the exact same issue with my bike and I bet it is a switch maintenance issue. I would cancel the right signal and the left running light would go out. If you wiggle it or move it to the left it will come back on. It didn’t happen in reverse though. Over the years a lot of gunk builds up inside the switch causing the moving parts to stick and contacts to get dirty. I covered everything well an used a half a can of electrical cleaner with a bucket underneath to catch the excess. I then sprayed it with a liberal amount of silicone lube, put dielectric grease on the contact surfaces, and then even sprayed a little rust inhibitor in there. It is going to be a yearly routine or at least every 2 years for sure. They now work great. I followed the link below .Switch cleaning 101 Last edited by Thunder Johnson; 11-15-2012 at 06:15 PM. |

ok, never mind, found it. It was the fuse. All of the stuff was through that one fuse. Switched it with spare and it all works. Now my question is, what could cause that fuse to blow?
