Did my first oil and filter change today and ended up using the full 3 quarts.
Manual calls for 2.7 Quarts 2011 Honda Shadow Aero VT750C I put 2.7 in and the dipstick still wasnt showing full so I added a bit more and it still wasn't there. That last quart only had about a cup left in it so I just emptied it. Checked the oil and it was perfect full. btw, each time I checked it I made sure the bike was level, not screwing in the dipstick. my method was to clean the dipstick, place it back in the hole (not threaded in), stand the bike up straight, put the bike back on the stand, pull dipstick and check. I know this is probably a lame question but should I worry that I added too much oil??? Even if lets say it showed full at 2.7 quarts, would that .3 quart really make a difference in terms of too much oil? thanks Last edited by Bobolto; 11-15-2012 at 07:29 PM. Reason: added bike model |

I just changed my oil last weekend - 2009 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 and found that I used a couple more ounces than the 2.7 quarts listed. Checked the oil with the bike upright, did not screw the dipstick in, etc.

Yes, I did a Filter too. and Yes I ran the bike for a bit and let it sit a bit between that first check. I have a full 3 quarts in my VT750 and the oil level shows full , where it was when I had checked the oil before changing it. I used 10W 40 too should I worry about it?
