well im on board because i feel my bike does not have enough braking power. other cruisers have better stopping power yet weigh the same so please argue how its only made to handle so much. are the other bikes with the same specs but with disks on the back expected to do more? im sure not seeing it? and yes ebc's buzz but so do some people's stockers

The old v65 magnas had dual disc front brakes, I wonder if you could swap fork legs and front wheels....has a disc rear but on a 16" rim, vt1100 has 15" rear. Other possible swaps maybe cb750 nighthawk or other year/models of the magna and sabre. Will have to look around. If the forks are close to the same length and they are the same diameter you could swap em right into the triple tree as long as they were the same distance apart...that's probably asking too much from honda to make it that simple. The rear would be a bear too, have to rig up some sort of torque arm for the caliper and make it look good. Will keep looking and see what I find.

I would think that its possible. When I had my 996 Super Hawk (aka VTR1000) folks were swapping front end from 929's and other bikes. Also swapping out brake calipers from CBR 600 RR's to the Super Hawk cause of the CBR's better braking.
Wish you luck and as I said so such thing as to much brakes, just and inexperienced rider.

Now, you could swap from a Saber, for the front. Basically you need everything attached to the rear swing arm and the front end except for the Trip trees. Including all brake plumbing.

Looks like no one noticed this post:
dual disk front/disc rear conversion? You can see that the guy has a rear disk brake, with a torque arm holding the caliper. The bike is a VT750 Shadow. |

Which sabre? The old v4 ones or the v2 shadow sabre? I've noticed that different years/models on vt1100 have dual disc front.
04low, superhawk is a great bike, I put 'busa calipers and master cyl on the front of my tl1000 (suzuki's faster answer to the vtr1000) stock tl was 4 pot, Busa is 6 plus bigger master cyl. Made a huge difference. |

I liked the Hawk, but it was time to slow down a bit. One thing the Hawk had was great handling. And so much Tq!!! And thats my only issue with my Aero, lack of Hp/Tq. I know its a cruiser, but every now and then I revert back to sport bike mode. Dragin pegs, feet and smoking HD in the twisties, just not in the straights.
Anyhow back to the brake subject, Just installed a Goodrich braided SS/Teflon front line, also installed EBC HH sintered front pads and EBC rear shoes. Big Difference!!!! Now on to the suspension.......

I'll try upgrading my pads, rotor, lines and shoes before I build a frankenbike. I still have my tl, tho I laid it down last month and it needs a fairing, shifter and misc parts. Should be thumping again by spring.

I traded my Hawk for the Aero back in March. It was a good choice.
Yeah try the line, pads and shoes first. I made a difference on my ride.

I will say that I bought my '99 Shadow in August. It came with nasty, gunky fluid in there that was probably original. When I pulled on the lever it felt "notchy", like it was pretty close to seizing up. Replacing that fluid made a 100% improvement on the brakes. I think you'll notice a big difference with the changes you've listed. GDI |
