I was planning on changing my bikes oil today but I noticed this hose hanging lose. I don't know what it does or why its unconnected. The top looks like its connected somewhere around the air filter. Does anyone know what this hose is? Or where is should be connected at the bottom? Thanks

Could be the overflow tube from the fuel tank. If it is, it should be connected on the right rear underside of the tank and routed behind the engine, coming out by the coolant overflow.

It should be there... actually, more than one tube may be peeking out from under your bike... (depending on bike)... Looks like the one in your picture is the radiator overflow tube.

Sorry I should have clarified my model. It's a 2007 VT750C2. I just never noticed it dangling there before and I've owned the bike for 1 year. Any suggestions to nail down exactly what it is?

My suggestion is to get a Honda shop manual and match it to a hose diagram. Sounds like you're curious enough to really start learning about how the bike works.

I would guess that the previous owner got tired of draining oil out of the airbox and replaced the closed-end drain tube on the bottom of the back side (engine side of the airbox) with a longer overflow tube.
When you ride the bike at higher speeds the oil can expand to the point where it would cause too much pressure/volume in the case. In order to relieve the excess volume/pressure, it will vent into the airbox. The original closed end tube is clear do that you can see when it is full of oil and know that you will need to drain your airbox. Here is a photo of mine. It's hard to see but you can just make our the crimped end of the hose next to the cylinder on the right. And yeah, mine has oil in it ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Motorcycle.com Free App

It's definitely the fuel vent and the end under the chassis should be just like it is in your pic. I actually posted the same question earlier this year when I noticed mine after having the bike for a month or so.
Welcome to the newbie club.
