One basic principle of troubleshooting: only change one part at a time.
If you were taking care of the carburettors, stick to that.
The carbs are the most likely part that is giving you problems. And is the cheapest one to fix. A used coil will cost you from 40 to 50 bucks, and that might not be the solution:

Change the filter too. When installing a new oil filter, smudge a bit of engine oil on the filter gasket and do not over-tight it. Check the manual.

You are right. The manual is a bit vague regarding some maintenance procedures or techniques. That's why I'm posting here two Honda bibles. One takes care of the maintenance in general and the other one covers all the information you may need regarding the carburetters:

hey my bike has trouble going into neutral is that a clutch issue o what?? and also how long did it take you to do all that to your shadow? I'm in the process of doing most of the things you've done to your bike, any advice would help , thanks

just ordered a new carb repair kit the other one i ordered never came in .... bike has a clutch problem too i think any advice on that
