Default Flooded/follow up question

my ACE 750 sat partially in water, about a foot or so. This forum was extremely helpful in getting the bike back on the road. It runs great, no problems at all. But I do have a follow up question, seeing that I could not really get inside the pipes(cobra 2" drags)... How to prevent rusting, what's happening to baffles - I did not really address those issues yet. Also, thinking back, I wonder could the water initially be pushed up the pipe, through the exhaust valve into the cylinder? I am not sure precisely what the level was, I know it did NOT get to my electrics on the right side(under the cover), so it was not really flooded that high, but I just wonder if that is a technical possibility. From a performance point of view, right now the bike runs like brand new...

In my opinion, and I'm no mechanic, the only way any water would have gone inside the combustion chamber from the exhaust is if the valve was open when the engine was last stopped, and the water level was higher than the exhaust port. Other than that, it is not possible for the water to be sucked in from the exhaust port. When that valve opened, the compressed cylinder forces all water out of the exhaust. And after heating up, all water would be gone in vapor.

You also get some water in the exaust everytime you start the engine cold. Water is a byproduct of combustion. The heat of the exaust dries it out as it heats up so don't worry about the pipes rusting inside.

the water line was somewhere around the exhaust port level, so I'm concerned with salt... I've acted fast, changed fluids, etc, still in the process of checking all that needs to be, going down the list of priorities. On the positive side, the bike was in a good shape in terms of all the connections, seals, sleeves, the water level was just short of a lot more stuff (could be much worse), I acted fast by cleaning, lubing, etc., but thinking in the long term - possible salt in those areas? Less concerned with pipes, a bit more with scenario that luisr320 described... Any water has been out some 500 miles ago, that's for sure.

I'd be more concerned about waters affect on the wiring, than the motor. If you changed the fluid, ALL OF THEM, and its running, the motor is probably fine. But if the water had salt in it any of the wires that got wet will need to be replaced any electrical components cleaned out or replaced. The salt will eventually destroy these items, and cause issues.

yes, that was my initial concern, so i went over wiring, cleaned, lubed - everything visible and accessible is done, running as it should, so I'm thinking about less obvious places/scenarios, just to be sure.

REPLACE ALL WIRES THAT GOT WET. It's not the stuff you can see that will cause the problem. You cannot see the water and salt that is UNDER the plastic sleeves of the wires or inside relay or soid state module/switch cases.

makes sence, doing that step by step. So what do you think about the possibility of water entering through the exhaust valve?
