Default 1993 VT 1100 engine performance issues

Hi to all forum!!

i am long long away from the States(Europe) but i am driving a 1993 California model shadow. The one with the canister but i have removed canister, tubes and valves. So here is my problem.Bike starts ok,idle is ok but during driving when i open the throttle instantly the engine stalls. When the throttle opening is progressive revs go up normal. I have cleaned and balanced carbs, checked the plugs and swap fuel pump with another one but with no results.Have you any idea?

Hello friend. I'm inEurope too, in Portugal, to be more precise. Where are you?
Have you tried to run the engine without the air filter?

I don't think you can just remove the evap control system without changing the carbs or at least linking the hoses from the purge control valve..I would bet that is where your problem lies, but I have never removed one on my bikes and I haven't examined the system enough to help you..

John.

Hi John
i had the same problem before deactivating the evap system.I have connect all the vacuum lines so there are no leaks. Is there any chance the fuel pump does not deliver the correct amount of fuel on sudden demands?

I would say no on the fuel pump.
did you check your vacuum diaphrams for holes while you had the carbs apart, is there a vent with a sub air filter for the vacuum diaphams?

Checked all diaphragms and were ok.I am not aware of any sub air filter. If there is any where is located?Inside the carbs?

I'm not sure about the evap. control system and have concerns there too. But it sounds like your flooding your carbs on quick acceleration, try leaning your mixture out a bit or re-jet for a leaner mixture
