Default hose under carburator?

so i took my carbs of my 84 shadow 700
but when i put it back on there a thin hose with a spring around it that's under the carbs
does anyone know where it goes to?or what its for?
sorry will post pictures tomorrow

its the most important hose thats why thers is a spring around it to protect it.. its for gas coming from fuel pump to the carbs. check # 8 & 31 .. its the only hose with spring around it as i remember .. its not a thin hose though as u said..

if u look at the 2nd photo i uploaded.. u will see at the top of it three hoses named air tubes.. the long one is the one i think u mean.. its supposed to be opened and go no where.. just hunging under the carbs.. but your's seems to be longer with spring around it.. i think this spring belongs to the main fuel hose.. i might be wrong though.

I think steed has it right. Your carbs need to have an open vent hose.
