FACT, if you do every aftermarket mod and part available for the Honda Shadow ALL MODELs including the VLX. you will get a MAX od 15% improvment in power. for a VLX that 5hp at best. 5hp means you gain 1 mph worth of better performance if you are lucky. Sproket do NOT affect power at ALL. The sprocket change how the power is used. Higher ratio better top speed and less vibes, but less acceleration, Lower ratio will give better acceleration but you loose top end and vibes. Then there the issue of size. If the bike is too small for you it will ALWAYS be and feel underpowered and buzzy.

Can't argue the power specs. But this isn't my only bike (see sig), and I own it. Was thinking about making a bobber out of it. Might sell it and get something else to bob. Just exploring options.

Something like this.

Hell, get an older Shadow from before they tanked the performance. The VT500C has close to 50 horsepower dead stock, and the old 750s have about 68. If you're just looking for something to modify, they're cheap and common.

Steve-O you also have to look at it from the perspective of how much it is going to cost you to bob it, as well. The mono shock swing arm and hardtail look of the vlx is free(since you own it) to obtain that look with any other bike is gonna cost you a whole lot more than chopping off the rear fender and melding on a springer seat. Not to mention the damage it's gonna do to your backside once you go rigid. Which I'm not against I have an xs650 yamaha bare bones and hardtail as f@ck, but the nature of the kind of set up IMO is bar hopping or around town use, how much power do you need?

On my VLX I went with a velocity stack intake, 41t rear sprocket, straight pipes, didnt do the carbs(my uncle did, he is better at the ballpark jetting that comes with straight pipes than I am) Timing mod, and an accelerator pump. Did most of the work myself(less the carbs) and I've spent around $400. I also picked up a front fender of an older shadow (an aero, I think. something wide enough to cover the rear wheel) trimmed it down welded a butterfly clip to it, and ebayed a springer seat, both for about $80 together. All I have to do now is chop the fender and weld the butterfly clip to the swing arm and weld on the seat. Paraphrasing of coarse, but it drags my 320lb butt down the road with decent power and soon to be bobbed out(minus paint) for less than $500.

It's a good bike but it's not an 1100cc. give it a chance.

Fake.

More power is easy. dare to be different....... turbo charge it. Yess ofcourse, you'll need to be handy with some tools and need some skills & acces to a Mig torch otherwise it can be done.
Will get you about 50% increase in horsepower with about 6psi of boost.

DIY parts can be scourced at eBay. Just need a smal turbo from a newisch small about/less then 1000cc engine.Smallest Garrett T2 will do probably.

Its not common and will give you the kick in the back you'l searching for.

Just converted one of my cars from non turbo to turbo. Its was eventualy easyer as I tought before I started it.
