Question Sames tires front and back?

OK, not the same size but the same brand. Does it provide any advantage?

On my cars I've always kept the same type of tire on all 4 wheels. I purchased a used 2007 Sabre and the previous owner put a new Dunlop on the rear but didn't replace the front, which passed inspection but I'll replace soon any way.

Is there an advantage to putting the same type of Dunlap on the front that I have on the rear? I'd rather go with an upgrade.

Some will say that they are paired better, making the riding experience better. But I'm sure they were NOT tested on every bike out there, so there's no way they can honestly make the claim.

I say go with what tire you like front and back. On my strat, I have a rear tire up front and a car tire on the back. My fiance has the same tire up front and a stock tire on the back. Her's rides more like a motorcycle, leaning and such. It's noticeable if I go from bike to bike. But mine rides just fine. So, whatever tires you get, get the ones you want and you'll get used to the ride.

Construction (radial versus bias) should be the same. Beyond that, it gets into technical aspects and extremes of handling that are not often of great importance on a cruiser unless the rider is going beyond his abilities.

So go with what you like as long as you don't mix construction.

I ride an 1100 spirit with a skinny front tire. Different from the ace and such. I have found the cone design on the Avon venom x to make the curves more negotiable with less leaning. I run the metzler me 880 on the rear and it has great push power and traction. Liking the metzler I put one on the front and while it was generally comfortable it didn't make the turns as well as the Avon venom x... Started peg scraping at lower speeds and less dramatic curves. The rear metzler also gives me far more miles than the others I have tried. The front... Not so much but the handling is just so good.

Dunlops generally have a bad name, I use Avon Venoms, I can't advise you to buy another Dunlop just because you have a new one on the back, I would buy a new Avon or Metzler for the front and next time change both at the same time..

Just what I would do for my own bike, In fact I would just go for the Avons because they have never let me down..

As long as they are both either bias or radial the brand doesn't make a difference. Many run one type on the front and another on the rear.

For the front tire you can run either a bias or radial tire. I run a bias(130/80-1 up front with a radial(175/75-16) out back, the only difference I have found is that my front tire last a lot longer now than it did with the stock radial.

H-D and Yamaha make bikes that come with a radial out back with a bias tire up front right from the factory.

Thanks for all the input. I'll take a look at the Avon and Metzler since Michelin doesn't make tires in my size.
