I am rebuilding my bike for the second time and since its the second time I'm taking my time and doing it right. I know the left side (battery side) cover is nearly impossible to find... Well I found one on eBay. It's a re manufacture and comes in primer black but I can paint it to match and I got the shadow 500 decals to put on both side covers. My question is, I have never seen a rear cover for sale. Is that even more impossible to find? I fashioned one out of some plastic scraps and painted it, and screwed it on temporarily but would love to find one. I haven't seen much on here for ideas to fabricate something for this. The cover I'm talking about is behind the seat for the low grab bar model. Here's what I fabbed temporarily. Not a great pic though...

They are few and FAR between. I have a piece of diamond plate sitting on my floor that I am going to try to make one out of. Mine is an 85 and has the taller seat. I will let you know how this works.

I figured as much. I have seen more of the taller parts than the shorter ones on eBay. There was a completed item I saw about a month ago with a NOS short plastic cover that sold for $80 I think.

I finally got the cardboard pattern traced out. This is for the taller one. I'm going to try cutting it out with a jig saw-with the tabs. Then drilling it out for a lock up top. I might, MIGHT, try my hand at making a couple of side covers-I need the left one. We shall see. IF this works, I can get you a price on them.

Wow... that saves time and effort-still going to cut the diamond plate for the cover on the back of the seat-
Is that where the tool kit mounted?

Not on my model. Mine has the tool kit that goes in a little box and slides in beside the battery between there and the engine. The toolkit is on the back for the taller grab bars I believe.
