i took apart my bike a few weeks ago and came upon some type of sensor. i didn't give it much thought. i took it off looked at it put it back. i was perusing ebay and came along the same sensor and i found the name of it
the rear piston sensor
85 Honda Shadow 500 VT500C Rear Position Sensor | eBay

what does this actually do? is that even the correct name for it?
i am just purely curious. if that is the actual name of it i'm guessing it senses the position of the rear piston? but i dont know how it would do that because its not connected even near that it was up and to the right of the water pump. any ideas?

That is neutral and OD light switch.
The other free wire is for the oil pressure sensor indikator light.
Rear piston sensor does not exist.

haha ooohh ok well thanks! now i know, i didn't think it existed from what i could/couldnt find online. Also the oil pressure indicator. if the oil pump stops working that will turn my oil light on right?

Light should go on any time pressure drops below a certain amount.
