You can replace the oil filler cap with a temperature gauge if you want to.

You can find both types of oil temp gauges on ebay . I installed one in my HD fairing and mounted the sending unit using an oil plug adaptor. If you are going to buy the full gauge vs. the dipstick gauge, make sure you buy electronic instead of mechanical. The only issue I see with the dipstick is that you can only look at it when you have pulled over.

Is it a style you're going after? Or are you putting on a permanent gauge as a solution to a temporary problem?
