Default adding a switch to radiator fan

I know i have seen this somewhere but i cannot find it for the life of me. I want to add a switch to the radiator fan for summer riding. It gets hotter than hell here during the summer and i want to be able to turn the fan on via a switch.

The way i seen was you can add a switch to one of the wires turn the fan off and on as you please while still having the ability of using the temp switch to have the fan turn on on its own like normal.

any one run this setup? if you can point me in the right direction i would appreciate it.

thanks

Should be no reason to do this if the cool system is working properly. Using a bypass switch can hide a problem and cause more harm.

There was a thread called " overheat light on" just the other day. The first reply was by John Hopkins. He explained how its done.

^^^ That explains it. The electric fan is designed to come on as the temperature of the coolant rises to a certain degree, regardless of the outside/ambient temperature. If you're having a problem with the engine not cooling properly, a switch to keep the fan "on" will only mask the real problem. Other than that, a properly running fan will do it's intended job.

^^^ Hopefully that gets your answer.

Additionally electric motors tend to draw quite a bit of current. If you run the fan continuously the battery may not get enough charge.

I wouldn't do it either your just adding another possible problem to your electrical system.
