Default Noticeable noise when shifting from 1st to 2nd

Can you guys diagnose this for me?

I say noticeable because it's not "loud" like you could hear it from a mile away, but it definitely gets your attention. It kind of sounds like it's having a hard time getting through neutral and into second. It's more noticeable when my gear shift is a little loose (still need to go get a lockwash).

Is it hard to shift, or is the lever loose? Get the lever fixxed first

Shadows tend to have a bit of a clunk 1st to 2nd and thats OK unless it gets worse. Is this a new symptom or is the bike new to you?

Most Hondas do it. It is the shape of the gears(1&2), my family has owned 5 in the last 4 yrs, all of them do it.

Even my old '71 CB750 has a noticeable 1st to 2nd clunk. I think it might have something to do with the big ratio jump between 1st & 2nd. Must be a Honda thing.

Naw, most all bikes do, most be because that going through netural thing, my Road King is really loud, 1st to second.

You just hear it less in high performance and small bikes. Partly due to tighter design tolerances, and the closer ratio the gearing the quieter the clunk.

I was checking out a M109, and it was about a 100 yards a way. the 1 - 2 shift was incredibly loud from that distance.

My Shadow does that also, but I have been able to almost eliminate the noise and clash by placing a little upward pressure on the shift pedal just before clutching/shifting into 2nd. Try it!
