I have been riding bikes for 40 years. I recently purchased a 2011 Honda Shadow Phantom 750. For the most part, I really like the bike except that there is one thing that is really annoying – the high idle speed. I purchased the bike used with 2K miles and as far as I can tell, everything is stock and there have been no modifications. Almost all of my driving is in the city and the high idle speed prevents me from using the engine to brake at stop signs and red lights. All of my previous bikes had a lower (and adjustable) idle speed. From what I’ve read in this forum, I can’t adjust the idle since the bike has electronic fuel injection. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can lower the idle speed? Thanks!

Honda seems to like 1200 +/- 100 rpm, which seems excessive, but after buying the tach, I find, that 1200 +/- 100 provides the most uniform idle speed. (i.e.: doesn't sound like it going to die at idle.) fyi, after removing the PAIR system I can get consistent idle at 1000 rpm, cold, from my Shadow Aero. |

I know my shadow service manual says idle is supposed to be 900rpm 100+ / -

Are you sure you have the correct manual???? I thought the phantom idle was in the 1000-1200 range stock. Romval of the pair system should drop the idle a little. going to need to reprogram the computer for any more of a change. Not even sure you can do much there. Small motors and 750 is small for a V-twin tend to idle higher than their 1300cc plus brothers.
