ok,, so spent last coupla days looking for right side plastic cover for my 84,,,, man,, is this what i have to look forward to as far as buying older model parts? 50 $ for a used side cover from ebay,,, well i bought it anyway,, note to self: nothings cheap for my 84 shadow !!!

Yeah they are pricey. I got a left side cover off eBay for my '83 750 for around $40 but its pretty faded and beat up. Still better than looking at the battery IMO.

I saw a not so nice on on ebay this weekend for $80 and a really nice one for $150
I zip tied mine on so if they do break or come lose at least i dont lose it on the roadside AGAIN!

I have been planning on making a left one for my 86 VT1100. The plan is to make a form out of wood using the right side as a pattern. When I get the wood shaped close enough, I want to use some plexiglass. I figure I can heat it to make it conform to the shape. May work, and may not. Have scrap plexiglass to try it with so no money lost trying. Someone has fiberglass ones on ebay for about $65, but when I have no job, I'm not going to spend that kind of cash on something like that.
If the plexiglass thing works, I'll post it on here,

yea,,i also thought about fabricating my cover before i decided to buy one. I thought about using a plastic 5 gallon bucket ( like what sheet rock mud/ paint comes in), cut it to form,, then maybe fiberglass over it,,, was an idea,, who knows if it would work or not, was just an idea
