Your lucky. That was a cheap one. If that side cover was black and advertised with a lot of scratches, I think I saw that one. Most on Ebay are $75 or 2 for 150. Even the Fabricated ones are more than that.

Yeah they are pricey. I got a left side cover off eBay for my '83 750 for around $40 but its pretty faded and beat up. Still better than looking at the battery IMO.

Has anyone tried shaping them out of some scrap aluminum or something? Because there's no way in hell my wife will justify that

I have been planning on making a left one for my 86 VT1100. The plan is to make a form out of wood using the right side as a pattern. When I get the wood shaped close enough, I want to use some plexiglass. I figure I can heat it to make it conform to the shape. May work, and may not. Have scrap plexiglass to try it with so no money lost trying. Someone has fiberglass ones on ebay for about $65, but when I have no job, I'm not going to spend that kind of cash on something like that.

If the plexiglass thing works, I'll post it on here,

yea,,i also thought about fabricating my cover before i decided to buy one. I thought about using a plastic 5 gallon bucket ( like what sheet rock mud/ paint comes in), cut it to form,, then maybe fiberglass over it,,, was an idea,, who knows if it would work or not, was just an idea
