I saw that too and was worried but it required no modifications and was a good, slightly snug fit. Definitely not faulty. I bought it 2 months ago so I assume that the issue was corrected not long ago. BTW, mine's a 2001.

Cheers to K&N for finally adding a filter for the VLX! $72 and change, though - pretty steep!

I've done a similar mod to my filter but used UNI foam. works great. I've found 2 layers seems about right. And with the dust here is a good idea.

Went by the Harley dealer. Saw a lot of used bikes with really cool air intake/filters. They looked like they would dramatically improve the air intake over OEM. Not sure if the VLX get's plenty of air with OEM and didn't know if there were any after market air intake improvements available for our bike.

I just installed a velocity stack from pjmotorsports.com and I like out. The 35mm kit is the one you need. Looks good too.

FD: Did you see a performance improvement? Or is it just for looks?

I notice a fairly significant difference. It sounds different(it lost that humming bird whistle noise) and feels like it has a bit more pep in it's step.

If it is not the look your going for Houston retro bobbers can make you a pod filter for around $25-$30 plus shipping. I think you posted a link to their shop/site on another one of your threads. Just give old boy a call and if there is anyone who knows VLX's it be the guy that runs HBR.
