Default Holesaw mod - are there any downsides?

hi lads

i just wonder, are there any downsides to this whole holesaw mod thing? Any problems with rust, moisture getting into pipes, and such?

Noise is not a problem here, as it's not prescribed by law, so i don't have to worry about having to reattach the mufflers.

Climate here is mild. Never too wet, never too warm, it's the perfect middle. All of the seasons, as they should be.

Oh yeah, i drive Shadow VLX '92, but it doesn't have two pipes, but the two of them go into one. It's very similar to the ACE 750 stock pipes, but not the same. I bought it like this, so I have no idea where they came from

The edge of the metal that has been cut by the holesaw will eventually rust. Are you sure you can do the hole saw mod on your pipes? Are you sure that you can't simply remove the baffles? Look for a screw(screws) on the muffler near the outlet.

hi lad

I will protect the cut edges form rusting. i meant the inside part of the pipes

I know certain harleys can get their buffles removed via unscrewing certain screws (witnessed, and afterwards did that on my friends HD) but my pipes have no such screws and it looks like someone crashed on my bike before me and the pipes were slightly repaired

It won't make any difference to the insides. They are always exposed to air with or without baffles.

Oh okay. I'll get to the drilling then

Chinese cruisers have a problem with that so that was my worry. As soon as you open up the pipes they rust to hell.

Thanks for your answers!

The only downside will be that you can't undrill them - once they're cut, they're cut. The upside is that if you don't like them, it should be pretty easy to find a set of stockers to reinstall and sell the cut pipes to someone else considering the same mod.

When I did mine, I bought a set of stockers to keep on the shelf, just in case!

Exactly what I did. I bought a set of stock pipes before drilling mine. The downside to THAT is that the guy I bought them from had installed v&h so I just had to listen to them and now I'm not going to be satisfied till I have a set of v&h myself! Money pit!
