I have oil leaking from what appears to be the gasket behind what is pictured below. Any where i can look to find manual on what gasket is called and where i can find replacement
as the seals get old they get hard and leak, you might need to change the push rod end for end if its worn where the seal sits
Note the clutch master also has a seal to keep the push rod central, that can be replaced as well, the clutch slave has a grove to let the oil out when the seal starts to leak.
Our Honda dealers here in st Louis don't stock crap. It takes 3 days to get anything and its all over priced. I've had more luck with an independent service garage here in town or on line. Most have free shipping.
or just get a generic seal 8x25x7, take the old one in to measure if you want it and locals don't have t (what I did but in NZ its takes 4 + weeks to get parts)
Its been a long while since I did mine, from memory the starter had to come out to clear the starter gears to refit them?? Might have been when I replaced the starter I am thinking of?
There is a steel plate with a rubber grommet for the cover mount ... the bolt that holds that on also goes through to hold the side cover so don't leave that on....
Check the wear on the push rod, Might be worth changing it end for end if there s a worn groove at all
You don't have to remove the starter to do this fix.
Step 1 - drain oil.
Step 2 - remove side cover
Step 3 - Remove starter gear cover (bolts are different lengths, note where they go!)
Step 4 - remove clutch slave cylinder (don't compress it or anything, just hang it up out of the way)
Step 5 - Remove shift peg
Step 6 - remove LHS crankcase cover(bolts are different lengths, note where they go!)
Step 7 - replace seals.
... then reverse the process and put it all back together.
I would have recommended you buy the oil seal, a new shift peg oil seal, and then a new LHS crankcase gasket and a new starter gear cover gasket. Makes putting it all back together very easy. When installing the LHS crankcase cover again, put some electrical tape around the shift peg so you don't gouge your seal (hopefully new, since it's just as old as the one that just failed).
I had a leak on the left side that was a booger to find and fix. I took that LHS crankcase off so many times that it became second nature.
BTW ... leak ended up being through the top 3-yellow-wire gromet. In that indention, there is a tiny weephole that goes from that area down through the starter gear cover and releases under it. So the leak looked like it was a clutch rod seal at first. Then I thought it was the gasket to the starter gear cover. Eventually I figured out there was a weep hole and I saw that the oil was leaking through the 3 wires.

There are some chemicals that will help soften the gasket. And if you have a gasket scraper or stiff putty knife, sharpen it well, and just skim the surface, don't put gouges in it.
It's not recommended, but I find a razorblade is the best thing. You just have to be REALLY careful. Aluminum will marr up and gouge very easy. removing old gaskets is something I hate. I still haven't found an easy way.
i was able to get it all off got some gasket remover from crc and a razor blade it was a tight area down there so a tad difficult for me and my big hands but i got done i will test ride tomorrow
thanks to everyone that put in some input to help me along or find and order parts this is what its truly all about...think i wanna start looking for things to make mine nice like that red one :smile2::smile2::smile2:
