I just bought a 2003 Sabre 1100 just turned 10,000 miles. It has V&H straight shots. It does NOT pop on decell but seams sluggish from just off idle to about 1/4 throttle. Other than that it runs perfect. I’m thinking up one or two jet sizes on low jet? Needle change? Also should I do the timing mod to this bike? Any other mods that I should consider?
I thought 2 strokes have power bands!!??!! Anyway the Timing Mod is a sticky and applies to the 750's. I always like to tinker and have advanced the timing on a lot of my other toys....Just curious if will work on the 1100's
I'm pretty sure it’s a tad lean on the low jet. It runs a lot better when I blurb the choke. P.S. I'm a mechanic by profession.... just looking for anyone else that has already done this?

All motors do, just more pronounced (and higher RPM range) on a 2 stroke. Try bogging the motor and cracking the throttle (like idle to 1/4 throttle as you put it)...when it stumbles it's because it's starting to load up and doesn't like it. You can feel the very same thing at cruising speed if the RPM is below where it likes to run. NORMAL.
He is attempting to resolve decel popping and you said you have none?
You are attempting to resolve an entirely different "issue" that is more a normal characteristic of that bike.
You can try to get it better, but really just learning to roll the throttle at low RPM and listen to what your motor tells you likely will produce better results IMO.
I think I've answered my own question I need to take a carb apart and find out exactly what jets are in it. thanks for the help though in trying to explain powerband
I have a bit of a stutter some times, more when its cold. I am going to up the idle jet a size or two and see how it goes, as its pretty right through the rest so I don't want to change the main or needle settings.
I might play with the idle mix screw to see if that is enough first (don't think it will) Its certainly worth a try before pulling the carb
I would start by running a tank with seafoam or Berrymans B-12, your slow jets could just be plugged a little. I know it's tempting but the bikes are ment to be ridden not worked on.
The ignition guys say that they are blamed for most carb issues and the fuel-meter guys take it in the shorts for all the ignition problems. LOL!
Here is a website that I found, which helped me immensely when trying to 'cipher out the fuel-sippers on my 1100. CV Carb Tuning Procedures
Fact is, there are different levels of tuning-in an engine. Most times, "good 'nuff" is where most folks stop. But, in their defense, "perfect" is unobtainable, you'll always go half-way to the wall, but never reach the wall.
Start with this info and see where the symptoms lead you. Maybe you've got the best main jets installed already, maybe not. Then work your way from there.
I will admit that my 98 AERO 1100 seems a bit laggy until around 1/4 throttle also. I believe it's either a synch-ing issue or more tuning is necessary. I honestly believe that it's in the tune, because when I reach 60 mph, the bike seems to level out, pick up a little power and wants to GO! Even if I don't change the throttle setting, you can feel it pick up a little around 65 mph. It's an rpm/airflow issue (IMHO). I'll address it someday, but for now, it's "good 'nuff". Here's a thread I started when tuning on my bike. Some good info that might help. http://www.hondashadow.net/forum/72-technical-discussion/360994-beyond-k-n.html
Thanks C5rider that's the info I was looking for. For the averageguy it's probably fine. But I have had my hands in many engines and know itcould be just a little better.
The mains seem good it’s just in the low to mid-range. TheChoke works as it should (when cold) and when I give it a quick flip it picksup on the low end. So I’m thinking when I do the air box mod it will needlarger low jets. When I canget the front tire to lift then I MIGHT be satisfied!!! Lol!!
