2 days ago, my bike worked perfect. Today I turned it on and drove half a mile down the road. Bike shuts off but now it wont turn back on. So I tired adjust choke, thought it may be cold weather, no go. So I pushed it back home. Checked a fuse, fuse is fine, gas still in tank. Now all it does is crank but doesn't turn over. Couple of putt putt's heard from carb but mostly just cranks.
I'm thinking it was the battery because now it is almost dead from trying to start it. Any suggestions?
Took the carb out, dad took it apart. Vaccuum has no debris in, everything was completely clean. Hooked everything back up and still no go. He says I may have to get a rebuild kit and replace some old stuff, but he told me to rig everything back up and try again before I do.
Spraying fuel into the carb makes it run...
Do this and make it run for a minute or two...
I may work to help get fuel through the lines to the cylinders???
You`re not getting fuel delivered to the cylinders, I suggest you hook up a gas line to the carbs and try to gravity feed them...
Fuel pump? Fuel lline? Fuel filter?Vacuum shut off diaphrahms?
Something ain`t allowing gas to flow???
Can you suck on the vacuum line going to the shut off to see IF it is working???
Hook up fuel lines as normal, but disconnect it from the carb...suck the vacuum line, DOES Fuel Flow?
Just my thought,
D
I'm still trying to understand what you mean by running a line from my tank to the carb (I know what you mean by gavity feed, but not sure where I am going to place the feed line on the carb.
Put the carb back on. Run a line from your petcock directly to your carb. Yes that is where you connect the fuel line. Make sure the petcock is set on reserve. Try starting the bike. Watch the video below.
Not real familiar with your bike but in looking at parts breakdown of the fuel system, it looks like you may have an auto petcock which requires a vacuum from the engine as it turns to allow fuel to flow to the carbs. You really need to find a factory manual for the bike. If it were me I wouldn't be tearing the carbs apart until I was sure gas was actually getting to them. That's why the suggestion to run a line directly to the carb, to bypass anything between them and the tank.
Don`tchya Just love reading my southern accent?
Disconnect the fuel line from the carb, then hook up a new fuel line from the tank to the carb where you didconnected that old fuel line...
DIRECT Feed from Tank to Carb, is what I`m trying to explain...
I suspect that vacuum operated shut off, is NOT working/operating correctly to feed the carb...OR the fuel line MAY be faulty...
jpr there is only one hose connection on the petcock. If he would attach a hose to that connection on the petcock then attach the end of that hose to the carb the bike will probably run.
Unfamiliar...
BUT ===>
BYPASS the vaccum operated shut off...
My thinking is that the vacumm operated shut off is remote from the tank, as is/WAS my V4 Magna...
IS that shut off part of the tank???
Get a remote gas tank...
Fuel canister/source can be a dish soap bottle with a hose attached...
Before I set eyes on my V4, that shut off was eliminated...
I did get to see the shut off, as Chickenman had it in the saddlebag as "spare parts" he didn`t wanna throw away...
I`m happy my thought on this is correct,
D
Dunno who nor when...
BUT the shut off was eliminated on that V4...
Still works thattaway too...
New fuel line from tank to carb is all it costs to do that,
D
If I remember correctly there might be 2 different size hoses. He will need the smaller hose that way he can force the smaller hose on to the larger nipple
I just bought an acrylic tube that I was able to fit over the tank and carb fuel line after a dip in boiling water and stretch from needle nose pliers. My battery is actually dead again, I am heading now to advanced auto parts to charge it, before making my attempt to start it up.
*Edit: They said it will take 6 hours to charge. They said they slow charge the smaller batteries. He said I can inquire in 3 hours, not sure if I should just wait till full charge or pick it up in three hours.
So far with a surprisingly fully charged battery in 1 hour, probably cause its new battery. But with the elevation of the tank, full choke and reserve, the bike still won't start up. Its giving off putts really, like a dog huffing from being tired. Its a step further though. I keep getting loud pops, but then again I dont have the air filter attached, just the carb exposed. I almost started up then stopped then the putts happened.
Have you attempted to continuously squirting fuel into the carb to keep it running a minute or two, yet?
I have a mustard bottle I use for my carb feeder...
BUT anything will do...
A syphon hose with fuel in it works too...
(Just anything keep it running long enough to pick up fuel from the tank)
EDIT===>
OOPS, I meant to ask about the fuel line straight from the tank to the carbs?
Did you check that method, yet??
Id the video i prcoessing, I just now uploaded it.
Towards the end of the video, it shows a loud pop, spray and burst of flame from the carb. This is without spraying the gas into the throat of the carb.
