Hi All! So to make a short story long...haha just kidding. Well, maybe a medium size story will suffice.
My bike was parked in a Ace Hardware parking lot. I get out and my bike is toppled over on the muffler side. I get the bike back up and it starts on the first try. I ride it back home with no problems. I ride it a few more times after the incident with no problems. Fast forward two days after the hit and run...I fill up the tank with gas and take off. About 2 miles into the ride my bike starts to bog like it's running out of fuel. Mind you, I just filled up the tank so I have plenty of gas. Luckily, I was close to home. Bike idles low and eventually dies out as I get into my driveway. I start the bike back up and but it's idling very low and slugglish and will only stay alive if I stay on the throttle. My first thought was I got a bad batch of gas. So I dump the gas in the tank and replace it with a fresh gallon. I start the bike with the new gas and it still idles low and still dies when I let go of the throttle. At this point the bike is not kicking over on the first try. Now I have to open the throttle to get it started. I end up fouling the sparks and replace the spark plugs. I start it again and it starts right up BUT this time fuel is leaking out of what seems to be a vent tube AND the the bike still idles low and only stays alive when the throttle is open. I'm pretty green to bike mechanics so I don't really know what part in particular it's leaking out of. I attached a picture to this thread. After several starts, now the bike is having a hard time kicking over. I can get it to kick over sometimes when I open the throttle up while starting. I put some seafoam in the tank to see if maybe it'll get some gummed up areas cleaned up. Seafoam did not make any noticeable difference.
I'm guessing that when the bike got dropped during the hit and run it messed up the float needle. Maybe the bike dropping jarred the needle and it now doesn't sit correctly. Or maybe when it laid down some gunk in the carbs got kicked around and cause a gummy needle. I could be totally wrong, those are just my uneducated assumptions haha.
Would love to get some of your opinions of what you think is going on with the bike and maybe some possible cures to try out. Thanks!!!
EDIT: The bike is a 2005 Honda Shadow Spirit 750
