Pirelli for Shadows. Wears well and handle great. Metzler used be good but went to a harder compound like Michelin. Avon Cobras are another option but can't say anything on wear but are good handlers. Dunlop is usually ignored for replacement for sure. Shinko 777 and Kenda have a great following but I have never tried them. I guess when you find something that works, you don't change thus Pirelli was my tire of choice.
I went through the same thought process not too long ago. I have a 2005 Honda Shadow Aero. After much internet research on this site, I finally decided to buy new Metzeler 880s for the front and back. Very happy with the decision.
Well I dont want something hard and likely to skid, such as the Michelin Commander 2's. Do the newer Metzeler 888's do this too? As they are meant to be long lasting arent they?
I have bridgestones Exedras on currently, that must have come with the bike. I'm still abit lost with all these tyres!
Also, can buy a tubeless tyre and put a tube in it? As it is quite hard to find tube type tyres

Make sure the rear tube has a valve stem that comes out at 90 degrees. It will make your life a lot easier when checking tire pressure. Also, don't forget to get new rim strips.
I switched from the Commander II's to the Shinko 777HD's on my '95 VT1100C and I have never been happier. Great performance and comfort. Over 5k on them and wearing perfectly. Love these tires
Rim strips are like a really big elastic band that goes around the inside of the rim. It protects the inner tube from punctures and flats by covering the rim’s spoke holes. Without them, you could run the risk of the inner tube getting punctured or worn through from the inside.
i will be going to a pretty well respected local fitter, so I imagine they will know about new tubes and rim strips etc. I will ask them about what you have mentioned.
Thanks
