guards for a 86-87 vt700 will bold directly to a vt800 but I don't know about ones for the earlier 83-85 vt700/750's.

There has been some talk on the board about a member making custom guards made for the 86-88 vt700/800's, though:

and welcome!

EDIT: there's also some talk in that thread that seems to indicate that the same honda line guard fits all of the 80's vt700/750/800's but you might want to confirm that with someone else.

that's kinda the problem - our collective knowlege shows that all engine guards/crashbars for the 80's vt700-800's have been discontinued.

So, it's pretty much ebay until jchargu3 starts making them.

Problem with the Hondaline engine guards for the 86/87/88 VT700/800's is that they're totally non-functional, they basically serve as something to attach your highway pegs to. They don't extend out enough to protect the engine or bike if it goes over, and strength wise they wouldn't hold up in any case.

Well, until jchargu3 gets a chance to bend some tubes (no rush though, jchargu3!) I'm thinking that I might use my HondaLine crash bars to mount some driving lights. Keep them low, mount them maybe where the highway pegs would go. it's about time that 10 pounds of extra steel on my bike did something other than collect road dirt!

As crash bars, the HondaLine bars are completely worthless.

I will be starting this soon, I was held up due to being Tboned on the bike, and my working arm still isn't to 100% strength

Tried to bend some tube the other night for something else and it was all I could to pull it, ended up having to push on it with my body weight lol

ALSO my bike is now almost back together to where I can use it for clearences and measurements and such I plan to make something a little wider and rounded like the harley bars, we all know what they look like

I'm going to make them affordable, but also NOT cheap in design, The most expensive part of everything will be metal and chroming, so I'm thinking of letting the chrome option up to the buyer.... in order to keep them affordable

ME, I'd rather them be the color of my bike or my frame but chrome does look good

I can't wait to see these! Don't rush your recovery, but keep us posted when you're up to full strength!

I'm keeping any eye on this thread

I like the idea of black bars to match the frame.

I don't like polishing chrome if I don't have to
