Default 1985 honda shadow vt700

i have an 85 vt700 and i have been having problems with power loss. at times it has spark, then no spark, then spark, ect. my charging system is charging fine. any help?

If it's happening after the engine warms up, it's most likely either a problem with the ignition coils or the reluctors (small coils) under the clutch that triggers the ignition. If it runs fine cold, one of the coils probably has a broken wire that opens up once the coil expands from heat.

its happening as soon as its started. my coils are good, im kinda thinking about the pulse generator, but dont know how to test them.

Default pulse generators

The honda manaul will give the specs to check it with a meter takes about 1min. I do not remember the spec but had to replace mine. If you do try to find a used engine cheap bought one for 40.00 The generator is about 250.00

i checked my pulse generator, and it checked out bad. 1 side was good and the other was bad. found a new one on bikebandits.com for 90 bucks plus the gasket for 10. im ordering it now and hopefully ill be back on the road wednesday afternoon. thanks for your help

i got my pulse generator today, and put everything back together. started it up and it ran like a champ. sounds so nice thank you everybody that has helped me with my problem. have fun riding, i know i will

Cool. I was wondering did this problem cause your tach to behave strangely?

yeah, my tach would go up and down. pretty much crazy. but now she idles real nice and no hesitation.
