I have never had any problems with my 99 ace 750 till just recently. i broke down, replaced the battery and had the same problem later. i was inspecting the wiring on the right side of motor and noticed that the wires were burnt into the harness. the wire are yellow. i removed the molex plug and replaced the wire but im sure there is more to my problem. is it the stator? im pretty good with my hands and pretty broke so i was wondering if this is a tough job. anyone have some pics maybe. the wires are between the engine and the R/r any help would really be great. i want to ride!!

This is an extremely common problem on the Shadow line going clear back to the 1983 model, the connector with the three yellow wires coming from the alternator tends to fry itself while the connector going to the R/R is fine. To fix this people tend to do one of two things, chop the the plastic connectors off and directly solder the wires together (individually) or solder some kind of male/female connectors to them them plug them back into each other and heat shrink them.
It does not matter what yellow wires go to what, all three have the same AC voltage come out of them from the alternator. |
