Three red lights? My bike's instrument cluster is arranged differently than yours, but the three red lights I have are "Low Oil Pressure," "Low Fuel" and "Tail Light Out"

it's just because it started flashing the other day while I was teaching my wife to ride on a parking lot, and we did run out of gas....

Yeah, I guess process of elimination would make it the one light of those three that you can't identify.
It comes on when the main tank is empty, and the reserve tank is all that's left. It will flicker a bit as the fuel is around the trigger point for it as the fuel sloshes and activates it and then sloshes again and de-activates it. It will light for 2 seconds as you turn the ignition on to serve as a bulb-check for the rider. The sensor is pretty solid, but has been known to fail occasionally. That might also cause your flickering. --Justin

on my 84 VT700C the three red lights in the middle of the light cluster are from L-R: low oil, brake light, low fuel. The only one I have ever had come on is the low fuel light and it is a solid light, not flickering or flashing. If your middle light was flashing, that's telling you there is a problem with your tail light. Quite possibly your low fuel light is not working. Bike Bandit and Hondaparts-direct both carry those little bulbs and it's worth having a couple of them handy IMO.

i'll check the tail light to make sure, but since this started since the bike ran out of gas i'm thinking about low fuel warning light. i bought a couple of bulb at checker auto a couple weeks ago, i was missing 3 bulbs.. i didn't want to get them from bikebandit because the shipping would have been more expensive than the bulb...
thanks for your help !
