Just been to see my buddy Snowy.
He just got an '83 (I think) VT500 and the left fork seal is weeping. He got the new seals, and a Clymer manual. Wth the wheel still in we tried to move the hex bolt underneath the fork lower leg but it just kept turning. We pulled the left fork and took it to a motor shop. They put an air wrench on it but no luck. The manual says that they are Locktite'd in at the factory. The manual says that they have to come out in order to split the tube and the lower leg. We are getting pissed. Any clue as to how to get the friggin' bolt out? All suggestions gratefully accepted. Cheers Collector

What I had to do on mine was use long extensions with a hex (24 mm) to reach down inside the lower tube to hold it while I turned the bolt on the bottom of the tube. Otherwise it just spins the whole assembly as you try to loosen it. For the hex, I took an old socket and welded a 24mm hex nut onto it. That fits the hex in the bottom of the fork tube that the bolt threads in to.
