Default 1999 Shadow ACE 1100 Clutch

Hello all,
My first post & first question. I just picked up a used shadow to commute on. It's my first real street bike. I've had several dual sports & dirtbikes over the years.

Question: My clutch is grabbing suddenly. It seems to be adjusted fine (clutch lever). The start of the friction point is right & smooth. After the bike gets moving alittle the clutch "locks up/engages" (whatever the term I'm trying to say here). rapidly. It feels like the way a go-cart clutch hooks up.

The bike is a 1999 with 5,600 miles on it. I wouldn't think it would need a clutch with the low miles? Any ideas?

Where is a good place to get a repair manual?

Thanks in advance,
Craig

Default Oil.....bet ya...its with the oil

What type of oil is in it? AND HOW MUCH....if you start running just a lil low....I have heard as much as .5 quart...your clutch will start grabbing.

fyi....replacing the plates and disks is easy...DONT PAY ANYONE TO DO IT...took me less than an hour start to finish........but I dont think your going to have to do that.

I've had it a week. The original owner said he services it at the honda dealer every year. When I asked what type of oil he uses, he looked at me weird & couldn't tell me the make or weight. Scary.

Sure enough, I get the bike home & check (according to the manual) and the oil is half a quart low. I added Honda 10-40. I assumed that is what the honda dealer would use. Oil was very clean/clear.

Guess I should change the oil to eliminate that issue.

Run it a while then change it and the filter, so that you know what is in the bike and when the change was done. Did the added oil affect the "grabbing" behavior?

I think it was grabbing before I added the oil. (I was real busy that week, & it's hard to remember).

I changed the oil & filter tonight. The clutch was much better. Not as smooth as I'd like, but much better. Probably get better with another change. $28 four oil & filter!
