Default Radiator Fan?

The other day my wife and I decided to go for a little ride. It seems as though the fan was coming on and off quite frequently. What does this indicate? Is it because I was riding two up, and usually don't? I haven't had it come on that frequent since then however. Just want to make sure the thermostat is okay, and whatnot. Thank you!

Do you mean the thermostat or the fan switch?

You were probably running hot and this is normal. The first thing I'd do is check your coolant level at the radiator (not the reserve). Might not be a bad idea to flush it if you can't remember the last time you did. Make sure if you do that you bleed air out of the system by letting the engine warm up, snapping the throttle a few times, and then topping off the radiator.

If you want to check your thermostat you can remove it and put it in a pot of water on the stove. (hang it from a string so it doesn't touch the pot). It should start to open at 176 to 183 degrees and be fully open at 203 degrees.

You can do the same thing with the fan switch if you have an ohm meter. I'm not real familiar with that.

Somewhere on here I found a link to the Haynes manual in a .pdf file. Anyone have it?

If a thermostat goes bad it will stick open or at least there designed too and if it stuck closed you would know it, like it was mentioned check coolent levels and of course the fact that your rideing around 2 up in 90 deg weather might have something to do with it

Yeah, it gets pretty warm here. But hey, at least I'll be cruising around all winter long! Come and visit Arizona, and we can ride all year!
