Default Honda Sabre

I am contemplating buying a 2001 Honda Shadow Sabre, the bike is being sold by someone who inherited it from his dad that died three yers ago, the bike has been sitting for close to three years, it has several extras: vance & hines shotgun exhaust (very loud), kuryakin hypercharger, cobra floor boards, highway bars, kuryakin grips, mustang dual seat, sissy bar, saddle bags.
The guy selling the bike had to cough up $600 to have the bike cleaned up, rejetted the carbs, cleaned the tank, etc.
My main concern would be this: Should I be concerned about cylinders being rusty or is this a non issue? the bike although sitting idle for 3 years was garage kept.
Thanks to all

Default BUY IT

Ive bought dozens of Honda's that sat for years.
No worries.

Restoration is my hobby.
How do I find them you are wondering ?
I am a Realtor and am in lots of garages.
If there is a Honda in the garage with an
old expired plate on it, I inquire.

If the price is right go for it. I bought my 1995 VT1100c the same way. It had been stored for about 2 years. Cost about the same to have it cleaned up and new tires put on. You didn't mention the tires, so I would recomend that you replace them. The ones on mine were cracked and dry rotted from sitting so long. Not worth a spill for the price of a tire.

The guy who fixed mine called when it was ready and said it runs like a new one. He was right. Mine only had 14k on it when I got it.

Good luck.

The price is OK, he is asking $3300 for it, it has 7900 miles and has been sitting for the last 3 years, it was cleaned up and rejetted this summer.
The guy didn't put more than 100 miles all summer long.
it has a cigarette lighter added, and a cup holder with the cup missing .
I think it's a deal for an 1100 bike with all the goodies I mentioned previously.
The tires are in PERFECT condition.

Say What?!! Well if you buy it and plan to remove that cigarette lighter, I might be interested! I just got finished drilling a 5/16" hole in the lower part of my full-face helmet to pass a cigarette through, mounted a little flip-open cover so cold air won't be blasting through all the time when I'm not smoking, but I hadn't yet figured out where to mount my Zippo lighter to the handlebars...so that cig lighter would be the ultimate solution! It's chromed, right?

Chromed and BEAUTIFUL, too bad I don't smoke, it would have been the ultimate accessory.
I will consider your request as soon as I get the bike.

I would be concerned about the tires even though low mileage, the tires are over 7 yrs old and although they may look good, if it was me I would put a new set on, that way I'd know I would be really good with the rubber for at least 3+ years............Just my two cents.........
Otherwise I'd say you did good...........Here is an interesting video you might want to watch.....

Sounds like a hell of a deal, assuming it runs good. If it does run good, then I wouldnt worry about the condition of the motorcycle, except maybe for tires, battery, antifreeze, brake fluid, clutch fluid, etc. Normal stuff you change anyway. Dont understand why the jets were changed after sitting, cleaned maybe but changed? Make sure no rust in tank.
Naperville, eh, I worked at Bell Labs there for 28 years, just moved to Bourbonnais.
Oh and I hate to break Stoopys heart but those cigarette lighters also work as "power outlets", handy for cell phone charging, running a GPS, etc.

Exactly my point, cigarette lighters are standard power plugs for a whole lot of devices: iPods, MP3 players, GPS, ..etc
I won't remove anything but the cup holder, as there's no cup to be held anyway!!

Sounds like a good deal to me. Just a little tlc maybe and ride it! Just remeber the hypercharger on the sabre is for looks and dosent function unless someone has done some pretty good modding for it. Good luck!
