Default Sluggish 750 ACE Newbie needs help from a pro.

Okay, so I didn't exactly expect a rocket when I bought a 500lb bike with a 750cc engine. It's a 2002 ACE.

However, the real top speed on this baby seems to be about 60mph. I can maybe get it to go 75 if I really push it. Much faster than that, and I think I'd just hear a loud "bang" from the engine and slowly cruise to a stop. The real problem is that I've heard others say that they can get over 100mph on the same bike. What am I doing wrong here? Just wondering if there's a common problem among bikes that will make them behave like this.

Thanks a ton for any advice. I'm thinking either those people are lying to me about their top speeds, or something MUST be wrong.

i would start by checking the fuel filter, the spark plugs, and the air filter!next i would see how high the rpms will rev in neutral and out on the road in gear.does the bike have an engine miss? are you running drag pipes? baffles in or out? bad gas ? collect some info then post back.

It probably just seems like you are pushing it to hard! It's probably normal and you will get used to it because it can sound really wound out at 75. Just Keep pushing it and you might be surprised how much more it has in it. These bikes take a little getting used to at first but after time you will get used to it! When i first got mine i thought it was gonna blow at 75 but after riding it awhile i realize i was wrong and the bike will run 80 all day long...lol

There are many things you could check but your bike can go faster than you are getting. Mine has no problem doing 80 plus. Check plugs, fuel filter, and if this doesn't yield a solution bring the bike in.

Default 750 ACE

I have a 2003 750 ACE with no problem getting to 80 MPH. Past that it will need someone else to ride the bike. I have been told it will exceed 100 and at that speed or there about the governor will kick in so as not to over rev the bike and cause damage to engine. It sounds like the best solution to your problem would be to spend a few bucks and have a dealer check out your concerns, otherwise you could be chasing this problem with know results.
