Default Oil filter substitute

I can no longer afford $7.00 a quarts Honda oil and I would like to find a cheaper oil filter at Wally World or Auto Zone. What do most of you use?? Thanks.

Asking about oil is like asking about loud pipes, gear, or helmet laws. My advice is to read all the info in the Oilogy sticky and make up your own mind. Search the forum for oil and you'll find tons of threads.

You need to decide synthetic vs. regular oil and then try one. The most important thing is to make sure it's not "Energy Conserving" oil. Generally, diesel oils, motorcycle specific, and most 10w-40 is not.

As far as filters, the oilogy sticky will give you a link to a cross reference. You can't go wrong with stock, purolator, wix, or Supertech. I personally would never use Fram.

There are several after market brands of filters on the market, just make sure you don't use a Fram oil filter. They are about the worst filter you can get.

I just bought a walmart supertech ST7317 (or close to that number ... damn my memory) for 2 bucks. It's 3 1/2 inches long and works great.

+1 on the ST filter and Shell Rotella oil for a super inexpensive oil change.
