Default Idle mix ture jets, how far is too far

I know this has been discussed before and I did roam around some of the archives.

Installed K&N filter, DG Hardkrome classics, and rejetted with Dynojet Stage 1 per instructions (power jet only). Started with idle jets 2.5 turns out. Ran it for 75 miles. Didn't run bad but a little slugish on very low RPM. Backed the jets out to 3 turns and found after riding another 75 miles that it ran better (not perfect) but the idle was too high now. Backed the idle down and its back to hesitating and low RPM, runs like a raped ape at midrange on up.

Backed the jets out to 3.5 turns, idles fast again. Ran it 60 miles and readjusted idle speed. Hesitation is back and seems worse. Seems that 3 turns out was the best? Should I try backing out more or just live with it, its only hesitating at very low RPM and runs very strong the rest of the RPM range.

THanks

THe air fuel mixture screws are for idle and just off idle. Around three turns out is about normal depending on the elevation you live at. You may want to make sure that you don't have a dirty jet. You may also want to adjust the c-clip on the needle.

I could meet you somewhere near Peoria for a test ride and a more accurate opinion..........

2 guesses:
If you only installed part of the kit, maybe you should have done it all
or
Don't insist on keeping the idle as low as it will go without stalling out .............honestly, just a few extra RPMs at idle might solve the whole problem.

Anyhow, someone else will probably provide a better answer......you shouldn't have to "just live with it".

Default there were no left over parts

I used all the parts in the kit, it came with 3 jets and 1 rod for each carb and and depending on which combination of pipes/airfilter you chose 1 replacement jet. There were no replacement idle jets.

If it weren't such a job to pull the carbs I would try reaming the idle jets a tad, I have a full set of number drills which start at just a few thousanths but I think I can find a happy medium between the idle jet and idle settings.

The pipes are louder than I wanted but necessary for installing large saddle bags which are coming in another pay check or 2. The pipes set lower than stock which I wanted for bag clearence plus I wanted the additional HP.

Thanks
John

3.5 turn out is about max. more than that and the screws may fall out! put a dab of silicone sealer over the screws so they do not vibrate out.also i changed my pilot jets from the stock number 42s to larger 45. and now my bike runs great.

One more thing, so you have a side view of your bike? Curious how it looks with the Saber tank and fender
THanks
