Situation:
I have a 96 1100 ace with V&H classic II exhaust. When decelerating the bike back fires a lot. After reviewing different posts here, people said it was because of lean mixture. So I bought a re-jetting kit and also bought #45 slow jets. My main jets are 185 and 180 right now, 45 slow jet, placed the clip on the fourth spot on the needle, like it said, and turned the pilot screw out 3 turns. I am now lacking power on the high side (don’t know if I’m hitting my rev limiter), and it still back fires when decelerating. Now I have tried it with the stock needles, I have power threw out the whole range on my throttle, but it back fires. I had the pilot screw out 3 turns, 3 ½ turns and up to 4 turns, no help. If I go down another slot on the needle, will that make my mixture richer? Will it help? I am almost to the point of going back to stock everything. I do know one thing, I’m getting pretty good at take the carbs off. Thanks for your help. |

Buy a can of fuel-injection cleaner like a (Seafoam) that goes into your gas tank. This will clean out debris and dirt from the tank that's getting into your fuel line.
Check to see if the jets are clogged with debris or thick "gunk" that's causing your motorcycle to backfire. This will also cause problems with the fuel efficiently getting through the engine. Clean with Carb Cleaner next time you have the Carb apart. Best thing to do is the basic steps. Make sure your running a clean system then worry about the jets. Put the jets to there Dyno Jet settings and do the above. If the problem is still happening then come back and reply will go from there. Sounds to me like the bike was running lean due to a dirty fuel system.

I've been told that my 95 Ace has 1200 Goldwing mainjets in them...
I don't know part #'s, but I guarantee you it made a Dramatic change in the way the bike handles... Much better Midrange and Topend acceleration! I'm using stock pipes.... Carbs clogged due to 4 month inactivity in summer
