Default Tire change question

How much of the rear hub asssembly needs to be removed from the wheel before mounting and balancing a new tire?

Just take the whell off of the splines of the drive, and take it in. You are done. Basically, after you remove the axle, and spacer, you can move the wheel to the right (viewed from rear of bike) and fanagle it out of there.------Metalguy

Be SURE to lube the splines with Honda Moly Lube, if you don't it will only run you about 800 bucks to replace the wheel unless the drive splines are gone also and that cost you don't want to know.

WOW! I've replaced the back tire twice without doing that, and this is the first time I've heard of it.

Did you notice any red dust on the splines?, that the hard faceing flaking off, regular grease won't do it there's too much pressure, use the Honda Moly Paste and do it soon.

I helped a friend change his tire and the drive looked well lubed so I didn`t even think of putting grease on it going back together with it...

I glad I read this post. I came home tonite with a bad rear tire. Fix Flat got me home 50 mi. later and 17 lbs. of air left when I got home. Fortunately momma was following me home in "Led Sled". Tryed to fill it up to 41 lbs., but it have must blew out the culprit that caused the puncture because it is definitly leaking air big time now along with the Fix Flat. This is the 1st. shafty tire change. So much for a ride tommorow.
