I have an '01 Spirit 1100. I'm not a fan of the huge front and rear stock turnsignals, so I purchased new ones that are smaller and will hug the bike more. Problem I'm having....the lights are two wire application and the bike is 2 wire in the rear and 3 wire in the front. ALSO, the only constant colored wire is a green wire...the rest are yellow, orange, blue, blue w/ stripe, and yellow w/ stripe. I'm assuming the wires on the front that are striped are the running lights....? Anyway, I've tried every combination, and the best I could get was the lights being on constantly without the turnsignals on, but once i engaged the signals....they go out. What Am I doing wrong? I don't have the Clymer book or the stock manual, so I'm really lost.
Oh...and I think I blew a fuse becasue the neural light, the little red oil light, and the running light in the brake light no longer light up. Thanks for your help. |

Your front signal lights have signals, and marker lights. One of your three wires that are needed in the front are for a marker light that goes out when the corrisponding singnal light is engaged, and so on. Your rear signals should work, but you will have to get the front ones to work before really knowing.
Go get two three wire front signal lights and hook them up. you should be all fixed up. Also be aware that the marker lights are usually dimmer than the signals, so hook them up right.

I had the same problem with my bike. I took the inner metal sleeve and wiring (all three wires) from the stock front signals and crammed them into the new signals. Just barely fit as the dual filament bulbs are bigger, but now they work as they should.

+1 You actually have 2 "lights" in one bulb in the front, one for running light, one for turn signals. Your multiple green wires are all grounds. Your other colors are positives that control each running/turn signal light.
Yah, you'll need 2, 3-wire sockets for the front to work properly.
