Default Time to remove and re-install rear tire

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a general survey of how long it should take an experienced Honda mechanic to simply remove and re-install a rear tire on a 2008 Shadow VT750C Aero (Shaft Drive). Not counting any time to actually repair or replace the tire on the rim, I'm just looking for how long it should take to remove the tire/rim from the bike and re-assemble.

I purchased a factory repair manual and from what I can see it doesn't look super hard. 8 or 12 bolts/nuts and the exhaust assembly comes off and less than 5 or 6 bolts/nuts and the rear tire comes off.

So how long should it take for someone who works on these bikes every day to remove and re-install the rear wheel? Rough estimates are fine.

Thanks,

All I can tell you is @ my shop it's $86.00 per hour, per my last trip to install a new tire was 1.5 hrs, that's taking wheel and tire off bike, installing new tire and replace back on the bike...........

It won't make any difference how long it take him/her to do it, they go by a flat rate book which for the most part is in there favor, how much will it cost? enough that the next time your going to be asking how to do it your self,,,probably in the neighborhood of $70 bucks + a old tire disposal fee of who knows how much.
If you take it off and take the rim and tire to them probably around $25 bucks if you got the tire there, some MC dealers won't put a tire on unless it's bought there, they usually start spouting things like liability, tire age, blaa blaa blaa.

I don't know about an '08 750 Aero, but my shaft-drive 1100 doesn't require the removal of the exhaust system to remove the rear wheel. I'd say R&R should be less than an hour, probably about a half hour.

Thanks for the replies! They actually don't do book rate at this shop, they say it's whatever time it takes them. I live in a small town and the Honda shop here doesn't do the removal of the tire from the rim itself, they send the tire and rim into the city for that. But they were estimating that it would take them 2 hours to remove and re-install the tire/rim. That's not counting any costs incurred by the shop in the city who's actually removing and replacing the tire on the rim.

Seemed like a bit of an over estimate to me. When you're not doing the actual removal of the tire from the rim etc... Just pulling the wheel on and off seemed to me like it should't take more than 30 for each the removal and then reinstallation which is 1 hour.

That kinda jives with what the previous post said (1.5) hours including work on the rim itself.

Thanks for the info.

When I tried to get the local dealer to perform the 1st service @600 miles, I got the phone tag run around for a few weeks. Then finally got on the appointment log, took the bike in, then no service techs showed for work that day. Of course they didn't call me to let me know. I picked it up untouched. Then couldn't find an opening on the log so they wanted me to call later to get on the books.
I ended up doing it myself. - - - so if yours is like mine, it can take weeks to never to get something done, or not done.
There are independent bike shops that might be worth looking into. I was frustrated by then so did it myself instead of calling around to others. Most of my friends have an independent shop to their tires. I have heard take it in at lunch, pick it up after work.

Interesting, I'm looking at a factory repair manual for 04 thru 08 and one of the first steps mentioned is removal of the exhaust system, but the diagram shows the single larger pipe system. My bike has the two separate pipes like in your picture... So it's unlikely they'll even have to remove the rear tire...

Thanks for the info. Man you're all a helpful bunch! Glad I found this site!

I've removed my own to replace the tires and that's about all it took me. I was following instructions from the shop manual, no professional here! It takes more time to lift the bike than it does to remove the rear wheel!

So your factory manual made no mention of removal of the exhaust system?

Anyone else out there have a shop manual for the 08 VT750C Aero that you can check to see if your manual mentions removal of the exhaust system before removing the rear wheel?

Thanks,

Clymer's Shop Manual, not the Honda. I don't recall any such instructions, but remember, the only similarity between our bikes is the shaft drive. My exhaust system is nothing like the 750 Aero's, but I still can't imagine why you'd have to remove the exhaust!
