You can tell if the starter is is bad or not by listening for a click when you push the start button. The click will come some somewhere under the seat. That click is the relay the activates the starter. If you hear that click, then you know that the bike isn't preventing itself from starting. That click means that the bike wants to crank the engine over. If you hear the click, then wither the starter relay is bad, or the starter itself. We can go from there it's that's the case.
If you don't hear a click, then the bike's safety systems are either preventing the bike from being able to start, or the starter relay is bad.
