Default Fuel is overflowing in carb, 86 vt700

So i went and bought a 86 vt 700 and a friend suggested we remove the carbs and clean them because the bike was having a hard time starting and was popping when we did get it started. we put the carbs back on and hooked the vacuums wrong the fist time. we then did some research and we have the cables hooked up right now. the problem is we are getting a massive amount of fuel coming out of the overflow now. we drained the carbs and bought new plugs but fuel is still coming out of the overflow. The bike will not start. we checked the carbs again and everything looks fine. any info would be appreciated.

Check the float level for proper setting

Check the needle/seat to insure it is cutting / shutting off properly.

Obviously everything is NOT fine...........

One of the above things isn't right......or the float doesn't "float" anymore.

Since you have been trying to start it in that condition (bad move) after you get the overflowing fuel problem fixed, then you MUST change the oil before the bike runs more than a couple of minutes.......becasue you probably have a significant amount of fuel in the OIL....which will burn out your bearings and maybe damage the seals and clutch too.

My 86 did the same thing when i tried to clean the carbs. Come to find out that when i put the carbs back together, i put the needle (not sure of exact name) in wrong. Its the lil brass piece with a spring that attaches to the bowl and has a point on one end. I put it on and it did not allow the bowl to close all the way.

I really appreciate everyone's input on this, it helped out tremendously. Took the carbs out and found that the little metal tab that the needle hits was bent the wrong way. it took some trial and error to get the tabs in the right position but after a couple hours the bike is now running. The oil has been changed and another set of plugs have been put in. Thanks again for all your help guys!
