I have a 1987 Honda Shadow. It ran great until I stopped for gas. After I filled it up, I had no power. No lights, horn, nothing. Battery fully charged, I checked. I checked all the fuses, and they are ok. There is a good connection from the battery to the cables. What is wrong?

Welcome to the group!
Have you checked the main fuse as well? it's in a different location than the rest of them. It's on the starter relay. Follow the red wire from the battery to the metal canister that it connects to. That's the relay. There's a 30A fuse on that. --Justin

I had the exact problem the other day. . . 2002 shadow 1100. . .finally caled the tow truck after checking fuses, kill switch, neutral, kickstand and main fuse. . . found everything to be in order. Just before the tow truck arrived it started! Cant figgure it out either. Another symptom I noticed was when I did get the lights to come on (neutral horn, etc) and pushed the starter I just got a "click" and everything went dead again. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As far as the last post goes, that's a classic symptom of a bad ground or bad battery connection. On most Shadows, the negative grounds on the rear of the engine. Check and clean all battery terminal connectors, ground connectors, and where the positive wire connects to the starter relay.

AND the bad connection can be INSIDE the battery. Both could be bad batteries; gotta chase the voltage through with a meter.....unless the battery voltage goes to near 0 when the starter is engaged; then you need a new battery. |
