Not the human bodily kind, but the motorcycle bodily kind...
A question to those of you that do your own maintenance... What do you do with your used fluids? My county recycle takes motor oil, so I've got that covered. But I'm about to do a brake fluid change and a radiator flush. I've seen some people say you can combine your brake fluid with your motor oil when you drop it off. The county website says not to do this, but doesn't offer any alternatives. The only thing I've heard about coolant is that you might, depending on your municipal water treatment system, just dump it down your toilet drain. I'm skeptical. I want to do the right thing, and also be environmentally responsible. So, what do you guys do? |

I have a friend that lives out in the boonies where environmental laws don't apply compared to here in the city where I live, motor oil, tranny fluid, brake fluid, carb cleaner, etc. (anything moderately burnable) goes into the 5 gal bucket when its full he burns it in an oil burning stove he has.
Seeing how not everyone has a friend that lives out in the boonies with an oil burning stove I would say to keep oil in one container and your other fluids in another container, and anti-freeze in yet another container, and then take them all to your local hazmat dump, here in Portland the hazmat dump is free for home owners (non-business) to dump toxic things off at. |

Fast Lube places too......if they also do coolant and brake changes, they should take all three. The will be happier to take it if you also give them a little business along the way. |

Our local Advance takes the oil but you have take the empty container's with you. I have a local body shop that heats with "used oil" heater. They usually get mine.
