Default How much oil for a 1999 Shadow?

How much oil do I put in my 1999 Honda Shadow 750? Also, what type of oil do you recommend?

Pretty much any 10W40 oil is fine to use. Read the oil thread at the top of the page for more info.

As far as amount. Get 4 quarts. Put in two and check the dip stick then add a little more and repeat until between the lines on the dip stick. Maybe some one with a 1999 will chime in with the exact amount. Check with bike level and dip stick not screwed in but just resting in hole.

Welcome.

Only thing to add - make sure the API label on the oil you select does not contain the words "Energy Conserving".

No. If it has the API Circular label on it AT ALL. Don't use it.

For a wet clutch application such as a Honda Shadow you need to confine to SF/SG grade oil ONLY.

I started using Valvoline 4-Stroke Motorcycle Oil and it works fine.

Honda does not recommend using Castor based oils or synthetics. Stick to Dino oil.

I just went through this and it almost ruined my clutch.
