Ok so with the cold weather upon us I have to use my choke now until up to temp. No big deal.
What's strange is I used to throw on the choke (enricher), crank the bike over and she'd start up perfect every time. Now it seems the bike doesn't want to start while I have the enricher engaged, but I still need the enricher engaged to add more fuel and boost the idle until the engine is warm. So now the process is: keep the enricher off, crank the bike over until she fires up and then feather the gas and engage the enricher until I can let her warm up like normal. Anyone else have this issue? It's almost like with the enricher on she's maybe getting too much fuel, but my idle screws are set perfectly and I actually double checked it yesterday, by redoing their position. Not burning any excess gas while riding and she is running and idling like a top.

It should be operated just enough to maintain an idle speed just a tad above normal.....and without stumbling. That means gradually reducing it as the bike warms and the idle speed increases. It is unnecessary and not good to let the idle speed race with the choke/enricher on fully. P.S. If you haven't lately, now would be a good time to run some carb cleaner through with the gas......unless you are about to put it up for storage......in which case you would use fuel stabilizer instead. |
